Crochet Tote and Natural Dye August 17th
A special workshop to design, make, and dye your own bag!
This special workshop is taught by crochet artist Taryn Urushido and natural dye artist Maki Teshima from Tomorrow Is Always New in each of their art spaces, both located at Brooklyn Art Studios in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
The first half of the class will be crocheting with Taryn. 95% of her students have never crocheted before and everyone completes the project with their own designs incorporated. Each bag is made of a leather base and natural cotton rope.
Next, everyone will be able to explore Maki's world of natural dyes and techniques. A couple of different vats will be brewing and each person will have the choice of dipping their crocheted bag into one color with your choice of: Oak Gall (blackish/purple), Annato (orange), and Indigo (blue). You may dip fully or dip half way.
Saturday, August 17th
10am-3pm
276 Greenpoint Ave, Building 8/9
First floor, Studio #8105
Brooklyn, NY 11222
*Light snacks, water, tea and wine will be provided during the workshop.
*A small break will be necessary while the finished crocheted bag is soaking in water prior to dying. This is the perfect time for everyone to get a small bite to eat and/or coffee. There are many great places not too far from the studio we can recommend.
*Due to the nature of the wet process of dyeing, please wear shoes and clothing you do not mind getting stained and/or you may bring your own apron.
**Your finished piece will be washed before end of class but still wet. We will wrap in a plastic bag to take home. Special instructions will be given on how to dry and care for at home.
