Fiber Art Week
Learn and combine textile art forms culminating in the creation of your very own hand crafted basket. Lead by Taryn's own studio practices in learning form and allowing the organic process to evolve naturally per student. We will be studying and learning the different techniques from art to function in crochet led by Taryn to the innovative weaving and applications by Shiela Hicks to hand sewing through the history of Japanese boro and visible mending. Miniature lessons will be practiced throughout the week, leading up to a final combination of all fiber arts into one final basket.

Each student is encouraged to build and create their own ideas through multiple forms of fiber.
Words and ideas we will discover through building together will be:
intuitive
inspiration vs your own creation
color in placement, balance, and vocabulary describing color
texture
Techniques that will be learned and applied:
finger crocheting, weaving on a take-home-loom, basics in sewing and mending. All materials provided. See images of samples of various techniques by Taryn as well as Japanese boro inspiration and Shiela Hicks art piece.
Tools necessary and under supervision:
scissors, needle (for sewing), and more.
*Proper instruction of tools will be demonstrated and will not be handled without staff.
No prior experience necessary. *Interest in creating and trying something new a must!
*6 years old and up
In this class, each student is equally talented, creative, and valued as an artist whether new to each technique or having had prior experience. We will be practicing sharing compliments with one another, adding value to each our creative spirit while learning that each person has a different approach and vision throughout the creative process to final execution.
*Each student is required to bring their own water and nut-free snacks.
*Masks will be worn and all COVID safety protocols will be mandated for the safety and comfort for each student.
*Bathrooms available and will be accompanied by adult outside of restroom area when class is held in the park.
*Location TBD in Prospect Park and/or at Taryn's studio at TI Art Studios 183 Lorraine Street (If rainy day is in forecast, location will be held in studio)
