POLICIES AND GUIDELINES
Mission Statement
To provide a safe environment for all kids to explore fine arts through various mediums, taught with inclusive curriculums that instill confidence, empowerment, and value to all ideas and processes. Projects are custom-based per child and led with intention while engaging age-appropriate guidance through child-led challenges.
The goal is to teach the foundational skills of hand sewing, mending and crocheting. Through the practice of all three, utilizing the basic principles and shapes, the repetition becomes the most powerful part of the process, while all skills complement one another, creating more understanding how form and function come together outside of one "medium". Creations become bigger, more complex, and with more depth in mixing and multi-fastening materials.
Teaching in Taryn Urushido's art studio is all the more access to how an artist has freedom to design, create, make, and build. Surrounding kids inside an artists' environment helps unleash materials unknown, having full autonomy of tools, while learning about color and placements. Students are exposed and encourages to look through a large library of art books hand selected by Taryn, as she shows exactly how artists are influenced by other artists, and how references of certain details can be so exciting and overall important in certain projects.
Our Teachers’ Responsibilities
Each class will be staffed by Taryn Urushido and an assistant. Maximum of students per class is 8 kids.
School Pick Up Services
For BNS PS146 pick-up service: All pick ups will include bright-colored vests with reflectors and a number to each vest. Each child will be assigned a number for the semester for roll call. We will walk together in number order to the subway and exit at York street and walk together to 53 Bridge Street, Brooklyn, Dumbo. School dismissal is 2:30pm and arrival to Dumbo is between 3:15-3:30pm.
All students enrolled in Almost Anything after school program will be picked up. If a student is absent from school or is not attending the after school program at anytime, communication needs to be made with Taryn the evening before or morning of.
Parent Pick Up And Drop Off
Pick up begins promptly at 5:30 pm (or 6 pm if the time was augmented). We ask that all kiddos be picked up promptly at the end of class. If you suspect you may be late to pick up your child, please call or email the studio ASAP. We allow for two late pick-ups no later than 15 minutes per session. All pick ups later than 15 minutes will be charged a $25 fee. We will also charge a $25 fee for all late pick ups thereafter for the remainder of the session.
Communication
We follow all up to date guidelines outlined by the DOH. In order to keep everyone safe, we ask that families inform Taryn of any potential infection or illness within their communities.
REFUND/CREDIT POLICIES
After School Refund Policies
All registration sales are final; no refunds will be issued if a class is dropped. If there is an emergency situation and your child needs to drop the class it will be at the owners discretion and not guaranteed/*may be possible for credit for future use. We understand that schedules can change, however, we prep and plan classes months in advance. As a small business we do not the the time and resources to accommodate multiple drops within a session.
Missed Classes
We are not responsible for offering make up classes or refunds due to circumstances out of our control, including but not limited to: weather, state wide emergencies, illnesses, or personal reasons. We will do all we can to make sure students who miss class are caught up when they are able to return to class.
Transfers/Credits
Due to owner's discretion, as valued under "After School Refund Policies".
Payment Plan Agreement
We do not offer a payment plan. If you have any questions, please contact Taryn.

Shut Down Policies
In the event of temporary studio closure at any point during the school year due to government recommendations/public health and safety, all classes may move online depending the length of the closure. We regret that we will not be able to offer refunds in this event, as we incur much of our costs upfront as a small family-owned business and make preparations well ahead of time for your child to have the best experience with Taryn Urushido Studio. If we are unable to provide online classes, we will be in contact with families on how we will make up the missed time. It has been and will continue to be our priority to provide the students with the full content of any classes missed due to a shutdown.
